Flat Water Training

I had planned to get down to Nottingham four days week to train for Canoe Slalom on the white water course there, but being fed naturally it has been closed due to flooding in the area.

I have been training on the Bridgewater Canal in my home town of Warrington treating myself to some flat water gates where possible at Marple.

Marple is the home of Manchester Canoe Club based on the River Goyt which weaves its way through Stockport. I had the opportunity to film my session using
the AdventureX Drift HD Ghost Camera. I put together a few clips in the video below.

Where I live there isn't much access to moving water and there is very little in the way of white water. I hope that one day a white water course will be built in Manchester or Liverpool which not only will bring another attraction to the area but will provide some where to train without having to travel as much. If I somehow win the lotto that's what I'll be looking to do!

Festival of Llangollen Video

Here is a little review of the Extreme Slalom at last years Festival of Llangollen where I was Knocked out in the Quarter Finals after my Opponent got away with a little cheating. It was a close race and a fantastic event - See you there this year?

Water in Wales - AdventureX

With even more rain coming arriving in wales on Tuesday evening I headed over to North Wales with fellow AdventureX Guide Antony. He is a Mountain Bike Guide and wanted to take to a boat for some tips to advance his Kayaking skills. We started of with a run down the River Dee to warm up. I paddled my new Slalom Kayak.

With the river up there were a few play waves to take advantage of. We were having a little play with the New Sony Xperia Z on the river taking a few video clips simply placing the phone in the pocket of our Nookie PFD's.

I've put a few of the clips from the water together here..

Happy New Year!

With 2014 under way, the AdventureX crew heading to the Tees to break in the New Year with a paddle. We had planned originally to head over to the Lakes as there had been a lot of recent rain so Levels were good. Unfortunately someone had pulled the plug and the rivers were almost dry but luckily there  was some heavy rain over night in the North East so we headed over the Hills and decided to run the High force to Winston Bridge.

The levels were High so we had some fun Playing on the Upper section to Low Force. It was a long run of 30k or so of paddling with many flat sections of river to push through.

By the Time we reached Barnard Castle we decided that we wouldn't make it to Winston Bridge without paddling in the Dark of the night and with the high water there was a good chance we would encounter fallen trees and it wasn't worth the risk.

We stowed our Kayaks by the Castle and headed to the town in our wet gear. It was easy enough to find the taxi rank and with thanks to our Nookie Paddling gear keeping our under layers dry we stowed our wet gear in the boot of a taxi and caught a ride back to the AdventureX Vito Wagon. The Rain was upon us so it was great to be able to just jump in the van and get changed while the weather turned outside.

In hindsight we made the right choice as we wouldn't of been back for a few hours more if we continued with the paddle and with the rain coming down heavy there was no natural light to have guided us down the river.

After the Long shuttle back to my car we headed back into the town of Barnard Castle for a burger and a beer with much discussion and planning for the coming your on the agenda.
